First Letter From the MTC

What up fam?

So I don't think its even been a full 48 hours but we have our prep time already. I'm pretty sure we leave on the 7th of September but as it gets closer I could tell you more details. My comp is Elder Hurren, from Eagle Idaho, he is also going to Rancho.

The first day was pretty slow, actually everyday has been slow so far. Everyone just says to make it to Sunday and you will be alright. The food is worse than I thought I and haven't been brave enough to try anything at brekkie other than cereal after trying a pancake/sausage corn dog abomination. It takes forever to fall asleep at night because the beds are crazy loud. Also there are six of us in a room that is the size of (or smaller than) my 2 person dorm in uni.

The first day was pretty basic, we met our district and our comps and such. Then we met the MTC presidency and the craziest thing happened. He had all the language speaking missionaries stand up and said a few words that I forgot, but then he had the English speaking stand up and he said, "I have an announcement, starting with this new 'batch' of missionaries we will be having the English missionaries learn another language (so we teach in English and another language." And everyone was like freakin out inside. Murmurs and crys of sorrow/joy. Then he had English missionaries sit down and he stood the language missionaries up again and said that they would also be learning another language (so two languages) so we all figured it was a joke, he said that the language we would be learning was the language of the spirit. Pfft no lie I was low key disappointed, but also glad because I don't understand how anyone could be here for more than 12 days without dying.

The next day was class all day, we have a different teacher in the morning and in the evening. Brother Gleason taught us in the morning and he acted out this super bitter dude named Conner who had some pretty crazy theories. I wish I could type it out but its super long... Whatever I'll do it anyway. SO 'Conner' didn't think God loved us and he thought that the scriptures and Jesus and Prophets all are trying to trick us to live good lives to live with God for eternity, when God actually takes our souls to expand his power, and apparently souls that had agency are more powerful, which is why we have agency. It goes into more detail and it was pretty crazy but that's the short version, it was all really hilarious. Brother Mclain was our evening teacher, he taught us about how to ask people to be baptized the first time you taught them a lesson, which seemed crazy to me. It is actually pretty hard to really get personable in a role playing situation like that but I kind of get the idea. There are some really crazy people here who get high on the spirit, and by that I mean, high horse... I guess. They just think they are better than everyone else and I have seen them correct people in the larger (30+ people) classes. Surprise each one of them I've encountered is from Utah! (but that isn't all that surprising). There isn't a whole lot to write, I haven't been here for that long but I'm counting down the days to leave.

The Drop Off

Dropped Gage off at the MTC yesterday. It was tough. We had a fun 2 days in Provo, SLC and Park City before the big departure. The missionary that was helping is going to Calgary Mandarin speaking. Now we just wait for the first email.
